Evangelism

Evangelism is sharing the good news of Jesus Christ (i.e. the gospel). As with all other aspects of Christian ministry, evangelism should be done in the power and under the direction of the Holy Spirit. Because evangelism is an expression of God's love for those who don't have a relationship with him we have to trust him to bring about the results we seek. At Life Church we do evangelism in two ways: proclamation evangelism and relationship evangelism.

Proclamation Evangelism

Proclamation evangelism is done through evangelists. New Testament evangelists are a men and women anointed by God to proclaim the gospel to broad audiences that often don't know them personally. In other words, they are anointed to win strangers to Jesus Christ. Put them on a street corner, at a bus terminal, a train station, or an airport and they will successfully win people. Unlike the most of the people who operate with the title "evangelist" in traditional church settings, a New Testament evangelist does his/her best work outside the walls of the church.

At Life Church we appreciate the evangelistic gift and we look for opportunities to give evangelists access to people ripe for the gospel.

Relationship Evangelism

This is the form of evangelism that is most appropriate for the rest of us. God wants us to develop authentic relationships with the people we come into contact with from day to day: coworkers, classmates, neighbors, etc.

These people will generally get to know us, not because of our commitment to Jesus, but rather because of some shared interest or activity. At Life Church we want our members to be free to develop these kinds of relationships. That's why we limit the number of formal ministry activities that we conduct. People need to have time for relationships. Our members are part of covenant communities that we call life groups. As the Holy Spirit directs, life group members introduce each other to their unsaved friends. This gives the Holy Spirit multiple points of contact for influencing unbelievers and provides a team of people who can pray for them to embrace Jesus.
